FOIA Request to State College of Florida-Manatee-Sarasota Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at Manatee Review have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the State College of Florida-Manatee-Sarasota. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

The specific records requested include:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have asked for the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. Details regarding scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

3. A list of recipients for any scholarships granted by entities affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already included in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of both Manatee Review and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media, we emphasize that access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our role in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.

We believe that our position as media professionals qualifies us for a fee waiver associated with this request. We look forward to receiving the requested information promptly and will continue to update our readers as more details become available.
