FOIA Request to University of South Florida-Sarasota-Manatee Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at Manatee Review have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of South Florida-Sarasota-Manatee. Our request seeks detailed information about the university’s current Chinese National students and related policies.
The specific records requested include:
1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we have asked for the total number of such students broken down by department.
2. Records detailing scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. A list of recipients who have been awarded scholarships from grantors affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.
4. Policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. We believe that access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with our role as media professionals committed to disseminating accurate news coverage, we have requested a fee waiver for accessing these records. We anticipate that this information will help inform our readers about how educational institutions manage international student affairs and protect sensitive information.
We await a response from the University of South Florida-Sarasota-Manatee and will keep our audience updated on any developments regarding this request.
