The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 30 that Deputy Ramez Fares has been named Deputy of the Month for March 2026.
This recognition highlights the actions taken by Fares during an incident in July 2025 at a Walmart located on Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota. The event involved a male suspect who reportedly harassed, battered, and threatened to kill a juvenile female, and also committed a robbery against the store manager.
According to the announcement, when deputies responded to the disturbance, the first arriving deputy encountered the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect resisted arrest and engaged in a violent struggle with law enforcement, putting both officers and members of the public at risk. During this confrontation, two civilian bystanders and off-duty Manatee County Sheriff’s Deputy Ramez Fares intervened to assist. Their actions were credited with helping detain the suspect successfully and preventing further harm.
The sheriff’s office said that Fares’ quick response and courage were instrumental in resolving a dangerous situation safely. As stated in their release: “For his swift and courageous actions, Deputy Ramez Fares has been named MCSO’s Deputy of the Month for March 2026.”
This award serves as recognition for deputies who demonstrate exceptional service or bravery while performing their duties.
