Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared his thoughts and legislative actions on social media. His tweets reflect his ongoing commitment to supporting Americans with disabilities, honoring military veterans, and strengthening international trade relations.
On June 6, 2025, Buchanan highlighted the obstacles faced by Americans with disabilities in entrepreneurship. He stated, “There are too many barriers for hardworking Americans with disabilities trying to start their own businesses.” He mentioned his vote for the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Reporting Act, which mandates that the SBA Administrator report to Congress about these challenges.
In another tweet posted later that day, Buchanan commemorated a significant historical event: “Eighty-one years ago today, American heroes stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the most courageous military operations in history…” He paid tribute to World War II veterans residing in Florida’s 16th district and expressed hope that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Additionally, Buchanan discussed recent diplomatic engagements aimed at enhancing trade relations between the United States and Honduras. On June 6, he tweeted about his meeting earlier in the week with Honduran officials: “Earlier this week, I met with Ambassador Javier Bu Soto and Minister Miguel Medina to discuss the importance of U.S.-Honduran trade relations.” The discussions focused on strengthening fair bilateral trade and maintaining America’s position as a reliable trading partner.
Vern Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. A graduate of Cleary University and later from the University of Detroit Mercy, he began his congressional career after serving in Florida’s House of Representatives.
