Rep. Vern Buchanan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently shared his views on several issues via social media. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951 and a graduate of Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy, Buchanan continues to be an active voice in legislative matters.

On June 1, 2025, Rep. Buchanan tweeted about a new legislative initiative aimed at enhancing national defense capabilities. He stated that “The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ modernizes our military’s lethality and invests in cutting-edge defense technology.” He emphasized the role of the House GOP in transforming national defense.

In response to a violent incident on June 2, 2025, Buchanan expressed his concern over an antisemitic attack that occurred in Colorado. In his tweet, he remarked “Yesterday’s violent, antisemitic attack in Colorado is heartbreaking and deeply concerning.” He called for prayers for the victims and commended law enforcement for their quick action while asserting that “terrorist sympathizers have NO PLACE in America.”

Later that day, Buchanan addressed health-related legislation through another tweet. Highlighting the importance of physical fitness alongside nutrition as part of personal health solutions, he stated “Food is Medicine” is only part of the solution. He expressed support for legislation like Rep. Mike Kelly’s PHIT Act which aims to make fitness purchases more accessible.

Vern Buchanan has been an influential figure since taking office after Katherine Harris and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives before joining Congress.
