Rep. Vern Buchanan, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district, has been active on social media recently, sharing his thoughts and engagements with constituents and colleagues. Buchanan, who succeeded Katherine Harris in 2007, has been vocal about his legislative priorities and personal acknowledgments.
On May 10, 2025, Buchanan expressed his commitment to collaborating with his colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to support American families and small businesses. He stated, “I look forward to working with my @WaysandMeansGOP colleagues to deliver real relief for hardworking American families and small businesses in One Big Beautiful Bill.”
The following day, May 11, Buchanan extended Mother’s Day wishes through a tweet that acknowledged mothers both within Florida’s 16th District and nationwide. He wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the remarkable moms in Florida’s 16th District and across the country. Thank you to my wife, Sandy, the amazing mother of our two sons. Your love, strength, and dedication have shaped our family and inspired me every step of the way.”
Later that day on May 11, Buchanan highlighted a recent meeting with healthcare leaders Andy Guz from Manatee Memorial Hospital and Kevin DiLallo from Universal Health Services. The discussion centered around Medicaid’s importance. He noted: “It was great to recently meet with Andy Guz from Manatee Memorial Hospital and Kevin DiLallo from Universal Health Services to discuss the importance of safeguarding Medicaid. Every dollar wasted is a dollar not spent helping a child, a senior or a family in need.”
Vern Buchanan has served in Congress since 2007 after an earlier tenure in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951, he resides in Sarasota and holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
