Rep. Vern Buchanan, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has taken to social media to express his views on economic growth and support for small businesses. With a background as a small business owner himself, Buchanan emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurship in driving the local economy.

On May 4, 2025, Buchanan shared his appreciation for small businesses, stating “As a small business owner for 30 years, I understand the need to provide support and opportunities to keep businesses growing. They are the backbone of our economy.” He further noted the significance of entrepreneurs and main street businesses in bolstering Florida’s local economy.

The following day, on May 5, Buchanan highlighted an article by Scott Bessent that discusses economic prosperity. He remarked “Great read from @SecScottBessent. Wall Street has helped drive our success, but ‘it’s Main Street’s turn to share in the prosperity.'” He also praised efforts by President Biden involving trade deals and tax cuts aimed at benefiting working-class Americans.

Later that day, Buchanan expressed gratitude upon receiving recognition from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He tweeted “Honored to be presented with the @USChamber’s Advocate for American Business Award in recognition of my support for pro-business policies.” He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing tax policies that secure benefits for small businesses and families across America.

Vern Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. His academic credentials include degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
