Vern Buchanan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared insights on social media regarding legislative activities and national observances. On May 13, 2025, Buchanan highlighted key aspects of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which he described as bringing “historic tax relief to working families, seniors, farmers and small businesses.” “Walking into the @WaysandMeansGOP markup of our portion of the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ that brings historic tax relief to working families, seniors, farmers and small businesses.”

In a subsequent post on the same day, Buchanan emphasized the significance of small businesses to the economy. He stated that the proposed tax bill would “permanently raise the small business deduction to 23% for more than 30 million small businesses nationwide,” thereby providing them with additional resources for growth and investment. “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy.”

Later in the day, Buchanan paid tribute to military children who have lost a parent in service to the nation. He expressed admiration for their resilience despite enduring profound loss. “Today, we honor the military children who have lost a parent who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.”

Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and has resided in Sarasota while serving his congressional duties. His educational background includes degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
