Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently shared his thoughts on various national issues through a series of tweets. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan is known for his advocacy on tax policies and support for military personnel.
On May 13, 2025, Buchanan highlighted the recent tax bill from the Ways and Means Committee, stating that “President Trump made a promise, and we’re delivering.” He emphasized that the bill aims to cut taxes on tips and overtime pay for millions of Americans, aligning with his No Tax on Tips Act.
Later that day, Buchanan expressed gratitude towards military personnel by tweeting “Thank you to all the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who defend our freedom at home and abroad.” He acknowledged their courage as a testament to national strength.
On May 14, 2025, Buchanan criticized Democratic efforts to raise taxes on small businesses. He noted that Democrats spent significant time arguing for increased taxation while asserting that “Our small businesses can each support up to several hundred employees and are our strongest job creators.” He reinforced his stance by advocating for a tax bill focused on Main Street rather than Wall Street.
Vern Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy. His political career began in the Florida House of Representatives before transitioning to Congress where he succeeded Katherine Harris.
