Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently shared his thoughts and updates through a series of tweets. Buchanan, who succeeded Katherine Harris in Congress and has a background in both the Florida House of Representatives and business, addressed topics ranging from tax relief to legislative initiatives.

On May 20, 2025, Buchanan expressed support for a tax initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on Americans working multiple jobs. He stated “No tax on tips. No tax on overtime.” The congressman highlighted that millions of Americans shouldn’t have to live paycheck to paycheck and noted that the @HouseGOP’s tax package aims to provide “real relief so hardworking Americans can keep more of what they earn.”

The following day, May 21, 2025, Buchanan conveyed his condolences over the passing of fellow congressman Gerry Connolly. In his tweet “Deeply saddened to learn the news of my friend @GerryConnolly’s passing,” he reflected on their time serving together in advancing U.S. interests through the House Democracy Partnership and extended his prayers to Connolly’s family and constituents in Virginia.

Later on May 21, Buchanan announced an upcoming legislative effort with enthusiasm. He described “The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ is on the way!” Emphasizing its significance as part of the people’s mandate by highlighting measures such as cutting taxes, strengthening military capabilities, securing borders, restoring energy dominance, and protecting benefits.

Vern Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. He holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
