State College of Florida-Manatee issued the following announcement on March. 10.
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Bradenton Symphony Orchestra performs compositions by Aaron Copland and Donald Grantham, and the world premiere of an original work by local artist Jonathan Godfrey at “Boots, Banjos and the South,” Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., at the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W., Bradenton.
Selections include Copland’s “Hoedown,” one of the movements from his 1942 ballet “Rodeo,” and Grantham’s “Southern Harmony,” a suite for orchestra based on shaped note hymn tunes from the Southern Harmony song book.
Godfrey, an adjunct faculty member at SCF, will perform his original composition, “Concerto for Banjo.” A resident of the Tampa Bay area since 2012, Godfrey is a regular session musician for The Florida Orchestra and has also been a soloist with the Choral Artists of Sarasota, Sarasota’s Asolo Repertory Theater, The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, the Florida Studio Theatre and the SCF Symphonic Band.
General admission tickets are $15, available online at SCF.edu/Neel. SCF students and staff can purchase $5 tickets in the lobby one hour before the performance.
