Manatee Technical College issued the following announcement.

Classes will resume at Manatee Technical College on Aug. 6, the trade school announced Thursday.

Courses will be offered in a hybrid format that requires students to alternate each day of the week between online and in-person learning.

The plan will keep campuses at 50 percent capacity, according to MTC.

In deciding not to delay the start of classes, MTC director Valerie Viands cited the need to train essential workers as well as help those who may be in need of a new line of work due to COVID-19.

“Re-opening on schedule will give students the possibility to complete their training and get (back) into the workforce,” Viands said in a press release.

Several measures will be enforced on campuses to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, including:

  • Students will be required to wear masks.
  • Students will be required to practice social distancing and limit large gatherings.
  • All will be subjected to temperature checks each time they enter an MTC building.
College staff will also limit group sizes in common areas and manage the use of shared equipment, according to MTC.

MTC has three campuses in Bradenton, including the main campus at 6305 S.R. 70 E., Bradenton. The college offers a wide array of programs that include business, construction, early education, healthcare, technology and manufacturing.

Applications are still being accepted. Visit manateetech.edu for more info.
