State College of Florida-Manatee issued the following announcement.
State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has partnered with CareerSource Suncoast to offer two free programs leading to certifications from the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC). Both programs are available to Manatee County residents living outside the city of Bradenton who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and Sarasota County residents who qualify for ALICE housing. Interested students should contact Lee Kotwicki at 941-363-7218 or KotwicL@SCF.edu for application information and to confirm eligibility.
The Certified Production Technician Program (CPT) is helpful for those working in entry-level manufacturing positions. The curriculum covers safety, processes and production, maintenance and quality. The program takes about 80 to 100 hours to complete. The Certified Logistics Technician Program (CLT) is helpful for those working in a distribution center performing tasks such as shipping and receiving. That program takes about 75 hours to complete.
Both programs are administered online, although students will need to schedule periodic in-person exams at SCF Lakewood Ranch, 7131 Professional Pkwy. E., Sarasota to receive the certifications. The CPT requires four exams and the CLT requires two exams. Each exam is 90 minutes long.
