State College of Florida-Manatee issued the following announcement.
The State College of Florida (SCFF) Foundation will host its 20th Annual Scholarship Luncheon, presented by Suncoast Community Credit Union, virtually on Zoom, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The engaging program on the future of education will feature Erin Gruwell, educator, author and founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation. The Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation is the proud keynote speaker sponsor for the presentation by Erin Gruwell. Gruwell’s educational philosophy fundamentally values and promotes diversity and has transformed her students’ lives. Her innovative teaching methods and powerful book “The Freedom Writers Diary” inspired the critically acclaimed 2007 film “Freedom Writers,” in which Gruwell was played by Hillary Swank, and the 2019 PBS documentary “Freedom Writers Stories from the Heart.”
Tickets are available for purchase at the following rates:
- $100 – Includes virtual access to Erin Gruwell’s keynote presentation and a delicious hand-delivered lunch catered by Michael’s On East (local deliveries only).
- $25 – Includes virtual access to Erin Gruwell’s keynote presentation only.
- $10 (prior to October 31) – Discounted tickets are available to educators for virtual access to Erin Gruwell’s keynote presentation.
