Morgan Johnson Road Closure

Manatee county

Manatee County recently issued the following announcement.

Manatee County Public Works Department, in conjunction with the construction contractor Woodruff and Sons INC, will close Morgan Johnson Road (57 St. E.) and 44th Avenue East, between 38th Avenue East and Caruso Road (60 St. E.) to complete work on the 44 Ave East Roadway Extension Project.

The project will realign Morgan Johnson Road and 44th Avenue East, south to Caruso Road. It will also improve existing portions of 44th Avenue East, adding bike lanes, drainage improvements, roadway lighting, and improvements to the wastewater and water utility systems. Once completed, the 44 Ave East Roadway Extension project will provide an additional east-west connection to residents between Lakewood Ranch and the barrier islands.

The closure will begin at 9 a.m., Monday, Sept. 13, and is expected to last three months, ending Fri., Dec. 17.

During the closure, a detour will be in effect which will utilize 38th Avenue East and 62nd Street East (See map below). Motorists who frequently travel in this area are encouraged to find alternative routes to reach their destinations. Local traffic in the closure area will access Caruso Road via the posted 38th Avenue East detour route.  Traffic crews will install a temporary three-way stop at the intersection of 62nd Street East and 44th Avenue East to enhance safety during the closure.

Residents are encouraged to learn more about the 44 Avenue East Roadway Extension project at https://44thaveeast.com
