Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.
Days after a tough 10-2 loss to Webber International in their home opener, the Edward Waters Women's Soccer squad responded in the right way, picking up their first home victory in program history with a 1-0 win over Florida National on Monday afternoon at the Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.
After the two squads battled to a 0-0 first half, Edward Waters cracked the scoreboard for the only goal and one that proved to be the game winner. Sophomore midfielder Amy Hernandez was able to slot the ball in the upper 90° in the 61st minute of the second half to give EWU a 1-0 lead that the Purple & Orange was able to make stand up to give them their second victory of the season.
Hernandez led the game with six total shots, four of them being on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Sheila Pascual was able to earn her first shut out in her collegiate career, having a light day with two saves.
Edward Waters will be on the hunt for their first winning streak in program history on Thursday, September 16th as they will host Albany State. Kickoff from Glover Field is set for 4:00pm.
