Lakewood Ranch High School Engineers Seeking Iphones for Drones

5

School District of Manatee County recently issued the following announcement.

The Lakewood Ranch High School engineering department is asking people to donate older iPhones for their new drone program. Students will be working towards earning their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 drone pilot's license. According to the FAA, drone pilots operating under Part 107 may fly at night, over people and moving vehicles without a waiver.

The Remote Pilot Certificate will allow students expanded opportunities in technology careers after graduating high school, according to Engineering and Robotics Teacher Bryan Richards. Those willing to donate an iPhone 6 or newer, may drop them off at Lakewood Ranch High School, Attention: Room 420.
