Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.
Some of the same issues that plagued Edward Waters in their previous three game losing streak reared their ugly heads as the Tigers fell 30-0 at Albany State on Saturday afternoon at the ASU Coliseum.
Edward Waters (2-4) had their opportunities to crack the scoreboard with several chances in Albany State (5-1) territory. It was the Tigers' inability to convert on third down that plagued their offensive efforts, going just 1-for-13 in that key statistic.
Albany State outgained Edward Waters 429-246, including a dominant 301-121 edge in passing yards. EWU was slightly outgained on the ground by ASU 128-125. The Tigers did take a 29:05 to 28:26 edge in time of possession over the Golden Rams.
Freshman QB Cedquan Smith finished his afternoon going 14-26 with 104 yards passing and was sacked one time. Junior transfer receiver Ferante Cowart finished as EWU's leading receiver with four catches for 55 yards. On the ground it was freshman tailback Devin Bailey with three carries for 48 yards.
Defensively, Sophomore transfer DB Andrew Powers led EWU with 10 total tackles, while senior DB Drevontae Jackson picked up his third interception of the season.
Edward Waters will begin a three-game home stand next Saturday afernoon at 3:00pm as they will welcome the Thorobreds of Kentucky State to Glover Community Field & Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased at EWCTigerPride.com/Tickets.
