SCF Music Theatre Ensemble Presents “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”

9

State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota recently issued the following announcement.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Music Theatre Ensemble will present “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6, and 2

p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at SCF Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W.

The interactive musical theatre experience, based on Charles Dickens’ final unfinished novel, is set in 1892 England and centers on young Edwin Drood, who has been

mysteriously murdered by an unidentified culprit. Unfortunately, Dickens passed away before revealing the culprit, so to solve the mystery, the murder must be chosen by audience

vote – revealing a different ending at each performance. Unlike other performances, the audience members will have a chance to become involved in the show.

This unique musical, with book, music and lyrics by Rupert Holmes – best known for the 1979 pop hit “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” – premiered on Broadway in 1985 and

went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Score. The musical’s 2012 Broadway revival also was nominated for six Tony Awards.

This production is directed by Melodie Dickerson, director, choral/vocal studies, in collaboration with Rex Willis, music director, guitar/composition, and Kelly Burnette,

choreographer and dance instructor, who guide the 22-member cast and 12-member orchestra.

Masks are strongly encouraged on campus while inside when proper social distancing cannot be practiced, for individuals not fully vaccinated or if preferred by the individual.

General admission tickets are $15; student and staff tickets are $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit SCF.edu/Neel or call 941-752-5252.
