Tigers Snap Losing Skid, Clip Keiser

Edward Waters College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

The Edward Waters men's basketball team did something the program hasn't done in the past 11 seasons on Wednesday evening. That "something" was notch a victory over Keiser University as the Tigers picked up an 84-81 win in the final contest of the Keiser Holiday Classic at the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center. The win over the Seahawks also snapped their current three-game losing streak.

The first half was tightly contested with both teams jockeying for position. The biggest salvo of the firtst half was fired by the Purple & Orange as a 23-14 run over the final 9:45 of the first half gave Edward Waters (4-4) a 45-39 halftime lead over the homestanding Seahawks (3-4).

The Tigers were able to hold off Keiser in the second half as well, growing their lead to as much as 10 at the 9:02 mark of the half. The Seahawks cut the lead down to as little as three with less than a minute remaining in the second half, but key free throws from Khalil Brown and Shannon Sanford, Jr. down the stretch closed things out in favor of Edward Waters. 

The Tigers were solid from the field, shooting 31-56 for 55.4% and were 50% from three point range as well. Their opponents were held to 24-56 shooting (42%) from the field and 10-23 from three (43%). Edward Waters was effective in the paint, outscoring the Seahawks 30-20 and scored 19 points off of 13 Keiser turnovers. The Tigers bench outscored Keiser's reserves 23-19 as well in the contest.

Senior guard/forward Elias Harden turned in his second consecutive 20+ point effort, with 24 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Junior forward Khalil Brown had one of his best nights as a Tigers with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Senior guard Jordan Jackson finished with 18 points and was 4-7 from the bonus sphere. Senior point guard Chandler Fointno finished his evening with 10 points to round out the EWU double digit scorers.

The Tigers will travel across town to UNF Arena on Thursday, December 2nd for their annual exhibition matchup with North Florida. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
