Congressman Vern Buchanan has been recognized for his outstanding efforts in protecting wildlife and combatting animal cruelty. Buchanan, who serves as the co-chairman of the bipartisan Animal Protection Caucus, received high praise from the U.S. Humane Society for his dedication to animal welfare. In the recently released 2023 legislative scorecard, Buchanan achieved a remarkable 100 percent rating, making him one of only 13 Republicans in Congress to attain this score.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Congressman Buchanan stated, “As a proud dog owner, I’m honored to receive a 100 percent score from the Humane Society. Protecting wildlife and combatting animal cruelty are bipartisan and commonsense issues everyone can get behind.”

The Humane Society highlighted Buchanan's commitment to key animal welfare priorities, including his sponsorship of important legislation such as the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act, the Humane Cosmetics Act, the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act, the Better Collaboration, Accountability, and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) for Animals Act, and the Puppy Protection Act. Buchanan's dedication to these causes has been unwavering, earning him accolades from both the Humane Society and his colleagues in Congress.

Throughout his tenure, Congressman Buchanan has been a strong advocate for animals, with the Humane Society previously naming him "Legislator of the Year" in 2020. This marked the second time Buchanan has received this prestigious award, solidifying his reputation as a champion for animal rights. Additionally, Buchanan has a history of success in turning legislative initiatives into law, with 32 of his proposals being signed by various Presidents, including Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden.
