Congressman Vern Buchanan has expressed support for President Trump's recent decision to suspend the de minimis trade privilege. This policy previously allowed packages valued under $800 to enter the United States without incurring duties.

Buchanan stated, "With President Trump back in the White House, China’s free ride is over." He criticized the Chinese Communist Party for exploiting this law to avoid tariffs on low-value goods, which he claims has disadvantaged American companies and contributed to the shipment of fentanyl-related products into the U.S., exacerbating a severe drug crisis.

He further commented, "President Trump was right to close the de minimis loophole—stopping Chinese tariff cheats and cutting off a pipeline of poison into the U.S."

The suspension aims to address these concerns by ensuring that all imports are subject to appropriate tariffs.
