Rep. Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida's 16th district, recently shared several insights and updates through his social media platform. Buchanan, who has been serving in Congress since 2007, took to Twitter to discuss educational opportunities, federal government inefficiencies, and military support.

On February 12, 2025, Rep. Buchanan expressed his enthusiasm about meeting with Hillsborough Community College to discuss educational opportunities for local students. He noted the college's long-standing contribution to the region and its role in strengthening the local workforce. "Great to meet with Hillsborough Community College yesterday to discuss educational opportunities available for local students! For nearly 60 years, HCC has supported our region and strengthened our local workforce."

Later that day, Buchanan commented on an outdated practice within the federal government regarding retirement processing. He highlighted inefficiencies by describing how retirements are processed manually in an underground mine using an antiquated paper system. "Can’t even make this up. The federal gov’t processes retirements BY HAND in an UNDERGROUND MINE using a paper system straight out of the Stone Age. No wonder bureaucracy moves at a snail’s pace."

In another tweet from February 12, 2025, Buchanan discussed his meeting with Major General Haas of the Florida National Guard (FLGuard). They focused on critical objectives of the Guard and acknowledged their essential role in supporting state communities and aiding recovery efforts following natural disasters. "Great to sit down with Major General Haas, the Adjutant General of the @FLGuard, to discuss the Guard’s critical objectives. Guardsmen provide crucial support to our state, protecting our communities and assisting in recovery efforts in the wake of natural disasters."
