Rep. Vern Buchanan, currently serving Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, shared insights and calls to action on various issues through his recent tweets. His focus ranged from hurricane preparedness to healthcare priorities and honoring cancer survivors.

On June 1, 2025, Rep. Buchanan highlighted the onset of hurricane season with a reminder of the potential devastation these natural disasters can cause. He emphasized the importance of preparation for Floridians: “Today marks the start of hurricane season, and as Floridians, we know how devastating these natural disasters can be. That’s why preparation matters.” He directed constituents to his official Hurricane Preparedness page for resources on safeguarding their families and homes.

Later that day, Buchanan addressed healthcare spending and its outcomes: “We spend over $4 trillion a year on health care, yet Americans are only getting sicker.” He advocated for incorporating nutrition into health strategies underlining that “Food is Medicine” should include nutritional solutions to improve overall health.

In a subsequent post on June 1st, Buchanan honored cancer survivors across the nation: “Today, we honor the strength, resilience and courage of cancer survivors across the country.” He committed to reducing bureaucratic obstacles that hinder access to essential screenings and advanced testing for all Americans.

Vern Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and has been living in Sarasota. He graduated from Cleary University in 1975 with a BA degree and later obtained another degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1986.
