Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared several posts on social media addressing both international and domestic issues. His remarks ranged from congratulating a colleague on a significant appointment to expressing concern over technological impacts on privacy and announcing legislative efforts.

On January 21, Rep. Buchanan expressed his support for Marco Rubio’s unanimous confirmation as Secretary of State, highlighting Rubio’s connection to Florida and his potential impact on national policies. “Congratulations to my friend and a son of Florida @marcorubio on his UNANIMOUS confirmation as our next Secretary of State! He will do an amazing job representing Florida values on the global stage and helping President Trump put America First.”

The following day, January 22, he voiced his concerns about the exploitation arising from technological advancements like deepfakes and AI-generated content. Buchanan announced his involvement with the TAKE IT DOWN Act aimed at tackling these issues alongside Representatives Maria Salazar and Dean Phillips. “I’m deeply disturbed by the increasing sexual exploitation of women and children through the rise of deepfakes and AI-generated “revenge porn.” Proud to help introduce the TAKE IT DOWN Act with @RepMariaSalazar and @RepDean to ensure these images are removed and hold bad actors…”

On January 23, Rep. Buchanan emphasized strengthening ties with Israel, particularly in healthcare technology innovation. He introduced bipartisan legislation with fellow representatives to advance healthcare collaboration between the U.S. and Israel. “The U.S. must strengthen ties with Israel—our greatest ally in the Middle East and a healthcare tech leader—to support healthcare advancement.”
