Rep. Vern Buchanan, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district, shared his views and updates through a series of tweets on May 13, 2025. Buchanan has been an advocate for tax relief and maintaining economic stability in his district.

On May 13, Buchanan highlighted the potential financial impact on Floridians if the Trump tax cuts were to expire. He stated that “Florida can’t afford a tax hike.” According to him, the average taxpayer would face a 22% increase in taxes, while median-income families could see their taxes rise by $1,778. He elaborated further on this issue in an op-ed published in the Herald Tribune.

Later that day, Buchanan announced his return to Instagram with a post stating “I’m (back) on Instagram!” He encouraged followers to connect with him via his Instagram account @RepVern for updates regarding his work in Congress and initiatives affecting Florida’s 16th Congressional District.

In another tweet from May 13, Buchanan emphasized his commitment to achieving permanent tax relief for Florida families and small businesses. He urged support for President Trump’s legislative proposal by saying “Let’s get President Trump’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ across the finish line.” Additionally, he informed followers about a live markup session held by the Ways and Means GOP at 2:30 PM.

Vern Buchanan has served as a representative since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, he holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
