Rep. Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has been actively addressing key legislative issues through his social media presence. His recent tweets reflect his commitment to reducing financial strain on families and improving mental health care for Americans.

On December 4, 2024, Buchanan announced the introduction of the Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act in collaboration with Rep. Thompson. He described it as “a commonsense solution to reduce financial strain on millions of families,” aimed at facilitating caregivers’ use of their health savings for medical expenses and loved ones. “I introduced the Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act with @RepThompson to make it easier for caregivers to use their health savings on medical expenses and loved ones.”

The following day, December 5, Buchanan highlighted discussions on mental health awareness and suicide prevention efforts during a meeting with Floridians at NAMICommunicate. He expressed concern over the struggles faced by many Americans, including service members and children, with mental illness: “Millions of Americans, including brave service members and our children, are struggling every day with mental illness.”

Later that day, he emphasized the need to improve access to mental health care for service members by introducing a bill aimed at identifying gaps in the current system and reducing military suicides: “We need to do much more to improve service members’ access to mental health care.”
