U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently shared on social media his views on the current administration’s immigration policy, legislative measures under former President Trump, and economic initiatives attributed to the Trump administration. Buchanan, a native of Detroit and holder of degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy, is active in highlighting his political stances online.
On April 29, 2025, Buchanan voiced criticism of the current administration’s handling of immigration, stating, “The Biden Administration allowed millions of illegal aliens and criminal gang members into our country.” He claimed that during President Biden’s administration, up to 15,000 illegal crossings occurred daily. Buchanan contrasted this with the previous administration, indicating a significant reduction in border crossings.
Additionally, Buchanan highlighted a legislative action from the Trump administration known as the Laken Riley Act. He reported on April 29, 2025, that “President Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law less than two weeks into his presidency, directing @ICEgov to detain illegal aliens arrested or charged with theft or assaulting an officer.” Buchanan emphasized that this action was aimed at honoring Laken’s memory.
In economic matters, Buchanan noted substantial financial commitments by major corporations towards domestic growth. Reporting on the same day, he mentioned that “Trillions of dollars are now being committed to American workers, American manufacturing and American innovation.” Specifically, Buchanan highlighted investments from Apple, Johnson & Johnson, and SoftBank, suggesting these as efforts to restore American economic dominance under President Trump’s policies.
Vern Buchanan is married and resides in Sarasota, Florida. His educational background includes a BA from Cleary University and a degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. Buchanan’s career has also involved a prior tenure in the Florida House of Representatives.
