Vern Buchanan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has been vocal about legislative initiatives on social media. On May 21, 2025, he posted a series of tweets detailing his support for a significant bill aimed at addressing immigration and social welfare concerns.

In a tweet posted on May 21, Buchanan highlighted the introduction of what he termed as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill”. According to him, this legislation aims to fund “the largest criminal alien deportation effort in history.” The bill includes measures such as finishing the construction of the border wall, halting fentanyl trafficking, and hiring additional border patrol agents. Buchanan asserts that “The invasion ends with our bill.”

On the same day, Buchanan emphasized widespread support for this legislation in another tweet. He noted that nearly 1,000 organizations across America back the “One Big Beautiful Bill”. He stated that from tax relief to border security, there is substantial backing from Americans and affirmed that “@HouseGOP is delivering.”

In another post on May 21, Buchanan addressed enhancements to Medicaid and SNAP programs. He mentioned efforts towards strengthening these programs by ensuring Medicaid access for children, single mothers, and disabled individuals while removing “1.4 million illegal aliens abusing Medicaid.” Additionally, he advocated for restoring work requirements for healthy adults receiving SNAP benefits.

Vern Buchanan was born in Detroit in 1951 and resides in Sarasota. His educational background includes a BA from Cleary University and further studies at the University of Detroit Mercy.
