Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007 and resides in Sarasota, recently shared several updates through social media, reflecting on significant historical milestones and meetings with influential organizations.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s conclusion on April 30, 2025, Buchanan paid tribute to those who served, stating, “On the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, we honor all who served and sacrificed for freedom and democracy.” He expressed pride in recognizing retired Rear Admiral Larry Chambers of Florida’s 16th district, who notably led Operation Frequent Wind as commander of the USS Midway in 1975.
On the same day, Buchanan spoke of a meeting with the Susan G. Komen team. As he remarked in his post, “It was great meeting with the @SusanGKomen team. Their investment in research and education raises awareness of breast cancer and provides support to patients across the country.”
Further highlighting his commitments, Buchanan shared his engagement with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses. He noted, “I met with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses to discuss their vital work in strengthening the nurses workforce and supporting those serving families in Florida’s 16th District.”
Buchanan, born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1951, graduated with a BA from Cleary University and furthered his education at the University of Detroit Mercy, continues to actively engage with the causes spanning both healthcare and military affairs.
