Congressman Vern Buchanan, along with Congressman Schweikert and Congresswoman Steel, has written a letter to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) urging them to consider the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care. The lawmakers expressed concerns about MedPAC's current approach to AI and its potential negative impact on providers and innovators in the health care industry. Buchanan emphasized the importance of leveraging AI technologies in health care, especially in preventative care measures.

In the letter, Congressman Buchanan stated, "I am deeply concerned about MedPAC’s negative and impractical guidance and recent work on digital health (AI) tools." He also raised suspicions that MedPAC may be taking orders from the Biden administration regarding AI, providing unhelpful feedback to Congress on how new products could help lower prices in the Medicare space.

Congressman Schweikert emphasized the potential of AI to revolutionize the health care industry, stating, "Artificial intelligence is on the cusp of a revolution that will bring cures to market dramatically cheaper and faster." He urged MedPAC to embrace innovative solutions that could disrupt the cost of health care and improve patient outcomes.

Congresswoman Steel also criticized MedPAC's approach, stating, "MedPAC is following a misguided path of burdensome regulation that will harm American patients and prevent the development of potentially life-saving technologies. They must reevaluate their guidance on digital health tools."

The lawmakers highlighted the importance of incorporating digital health tools into Medicare policy recommendations to maximize efficiencies in care delivery, enhance patient safety, and control costs. They urged MedPAC to consider the Quadruple Aims in its evaluations and recommendations related to digital health.

In conclusion, the letter addressed to MedPAC calls for a reevaluation of the current approach to AI in health care and emphasizes the potential benefits of embracing innovative technologies to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
