Women's Soccer Drops Season Finale at Florida National

1

Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

The Edward Waters women's soccer squad did not get the desired outcome in their regular season finale as the Lady Tigers dropped a 4-2 road decision to Florida National Wednesday afternoon at Goodlet Park.

The Lady Tigers started off behind the proverbial eight ball, surrendering the first goal just three minutes into the match and falling behind early, 1-0.

EWU came back in the 17th minute thanks to junior midfielder Jianna Jones' goal to tie the contest at 1-1.

Just over ten minutes later, Florida National was able to retake the lead in the 28th minute to lead 2-1, a lead they were able to maintain going into the locker room.

The second half was none too kind to the Lady Tigers as the Conquistadors twice found the back of the net, starting in the 50th minute to extend their lead to 3-1.

The Lady Tigers were able to cut the lead to one in the 56th minute on freshman forward Queen Moore's team leading 11th goal of the season, making it a 3-2 Florida National lead.

EWU was reduced to ten women in the match, when junior defender Destianna Manning picked up her second yellow card in the match, thus earning a red card to bring an early end to her day. Florida National took advantage, scoring in the 68th minute to put the game out of reach and sending the Lady Tigers to their third consecutive defeat.

The Conquistadors had more opportunities in the match, outshooting Edward Waters 13-5 in the match.

Queen Moore had two shots in the match, while Jianna Jones and freshman defender Alisha Jones each had one shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Sheila Pascual saw eight shots on goal and was able to save four of them.

Edward Waters had several memorable moments this season and was able to set a new program record for wins, finishing the season with a 6-7 overall record.

Second year head coach Stephen Peck, Jr. will have a wealth of talent returning next season and along with a solid recruiting class, the Lady Tigers will be poised for success in 2022 and beyond.
