Manatee Technical College issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
Four players finished with double figures as Edward Waters knocked off Coastal Georgia, 80-69 in a men's basketball road contest Wednesday evening at Howard Coffin Gymnasium at Gerald Cox Court.
Edward Waters (2-1) used their considerable size and strength advantage and rode a successful second half effort to the double digit win. The first half between the two teams saw EWU race out to a lead by as much as nine points at 30-21 with 5:17 remaining in the first half. Coastal Georgia (3-2) chopped into the Tiger advantage and only trailed by a 37-34 scoreline at the half.
The Mariners took their first lead in the contest at the 17:21 mark of the second half at 40-39. Edward Waters quickly took control of the contest from that point, retaking the lead and growing it to as much as 14 points.
EWU's success was found in points in the paint outscoring CCGA 24-12. The Tigers also forced 13 Mariner turnovers that turned into 17 points. The Purple & Orange also dominated the action on the boards, outrebounding the hosts 40-29.
Senior guard Jordan Jackson made the most of his first start of the season, leading the Tigers with 20 points. Senior guard/forward Elias Harden finished with 17 points, junior guard/forward Khalil Brown had 11 points, and graduate transfer forward Jasseim Obie had 10 points.
Edward Waters will welcome the Paine College Lions to Jacksonville on Saturday, November 13th at 4:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
