Edward Waters College recently issued the following announcement.
A slow start combined with issues valuing the basketball plagued Edward Waters in a 66-53 loss to SIAC opponent Tuskegee in a women's basketball matchup at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center Wednesday evening.
Edward Waters (12-8) never led in the contest and quickly fell behind, 23-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers only got as close as 10 points of the lead in the second quarter and trailed 34-22 at the end of the first half.
Tuskegee (13-2) stretched their lead out to as much as 17 points in the third quarter, leading 53-36. Despite a solid fourth quarter, which saw Edward Waters outscore the Golden Tigers 17-13, it was far from enough as TU was able to preserve the victory.
The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 31 times in the contest, which resulted in 35 points for Tuskegee. The Golden Tigers outscored EWU 32-28 in points in the paint, 15-11 in second chance points, and 9-8 in bench scoring. For the contest, Edward Waters was able to outshoot Tuskegee 37% to 30%, but TU was dominant on the boards, outrebounding Edward Waters 53- 38, including a 29-14 edge on the offensive glass.
La'Quanza Glover led Edward Waters with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Emari Bell had 10 points and three boards for the Lady Tigers.
EWU will next host Carver College in a rescheduled matchup on Saturday, January 29th at 5:00pm the James Weldon Johnson Auxiliary Gymnasium.
