Second year EWU Head Football Coach Toriano Morgan was named a rising star on Football Scoop's 2022 Minority Watch Coaching List.
The list was compiled with input from numerous NFL coaches and scouts, college coaches and coaching staff members, journalists, the Football Scoop staff and a panel of experts.
Morgan led Edward Waters to a 4-7 record in his first season in Jacksonville in 2021, the Tigers highest win output since 2018. The Tigers came within an eyelash of their first winning season since 2004, as two of EWU's seven losses were by 10 points or less.
Among the notable wins for Morgan's Tigers in 2021 were a dramatic 24-20 season opening win over rival Florida Memorial in the inaugural Big Cat Classic, a 37-13 road win over Morehouse which served as the Tigers first SIAC road victory and snapped an eight game losing streak to the Maroon Tigers, and a convincing 51-34 victory over Allen in the season finale in the AME Football Classic, ensuring that the Bishop's Trophy would remain in Jacksonville.
This year is the second edition of the Rising Stars Minority Watch List. In 2021, the list included Jackson State Head Coach Deion Sanders and other coaches who are now in prominent coaching positions.
