Broward College Awarded $40,000 Grant for New Artificial Intelligence Lab

Broward College was awarded a $40,000 grant from the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), Dell Technologies and Intel as part of the Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Incubator Network Initiative. The funds will go towards building a hybridized A.I. incubator. The physical laboratory on campus and virtual platform will allow the College greater access to A.I. computing power, tools, and resources and foster the skills needed for future jobs. A total of 15 colleges were selected based on criteria determined by AACC, Dell Technologies and Intel.

“Artificial Intelligence is quickly expanding and playing a noticeably important role in numerous industries,” said Dr. Jeffrey Nasse, provost and senior vice president, Academic Affairs. “Broward College takes pride in preparing our students for the workforce. We want to ensure that they are familiar with all aspects of the industry. Working with other colleges and partners, such as the AACC, Dell Technologies and Intel, will allow us to go above and beyond in providing this unique resource to our students.”

In January 2022, AACC, Dell Technologies and Intel announced a joint commitment to grow Intel’s A.I. for Workforce Program from 18 states to 50 by 2023. In addition to receiving the grant, Broward College has also joined the A.I. Incubator Network to connect with community colleges across the nation on strategic economic development opportunities, participate in discussions about learning pathways, strategize on student engagement in A.I. programs and gather best practices from each other and industry leaders.

“Today’s students will enter a technology workforce where every organization will focus in some capacity on applying A.I. to solving problems and creating value for organizations,” said Carlos Contreras, Senior Director of A.I. and Digital Readiness at Intel. “Intel is excited to partner with the AACC and Dell Technologies to democratize A.I. technology and enable students to enter that workforce with A.I. experience.”

We encourage students from all backgrounds to participate in our related curriculum and new A.I. lab once completed. There is no prior tech or coding knowledge needed, only foundational math skills. We look forward to empowering the next generation with the necessary A.I. skills for careers in the digital economy.
