SCF Music Schedule for February and March 2023

The Music Program atState College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present the following performances Feb. 23-March 30 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Bradenton. Tickets for each performance are available online at SCF.edu/Neel or by calling 941-752-5252. The cost is $15 for general admission and $5 for SCF students and staff unless otherwise noted.

“Transformations” — Thursday, Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m., SCF Neel Performing Arts Center

The SCF Bradenton Symphony Orchestra travels through time, exploring more than 300 years of music from the Renaissance period to the 20th century, guided by actors from SCF Music Theatre. Featured soloists include Martha Stiehl, harpsichord; Elena Grassia, violin; Virginia Katz, flute; and Greg Stead, oboe. SCF music student, Jarek Vogt, will also make his conducting debut leading a brass ensemble. The concert is under the direction of SCF music instructor, Rex Willis.

“Essential Elements” — Thursday, March 2, 7:30 p.m., SCF Neel Performing Arts Center

The SCF Choirs explore the musical nature of the four elements: earth, fire, water, and air. Song selections will feature music from the Renaissance to 20th Century performed in various choral styles by the SCF Concert and Chamber Choirs. The concert is under the direction of Melodie Dickerson, director of Choral and Vocal Studies with piano accompaniment by Lurray Myers, staff accompanist.

“Pianopalooza! 2” — Saturday, March 18, 7:30 p.m.,Studio for the Performing Arts

This year’s piano festival features a student competition, an educator’s workshop on teaching jazz, and a student winner’s recital. For more information, visit SCFMusic.info or download the SCFMusic mobile application. 

“Community Piano Recital” — Monday, March 20, 7 p.m., Studio for the Performing Arts Recital Hall

Students of all experience levels and ages perform in this community-based recital, presented free and open to the public. This popular annual recital offers piano students from throughout the community an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“To the Moon and Back” — Thursday, March 23, 7:30 p.m., Studio for the Performing Arts Recital Hall

Experience the uplifting weightlessness of love, friendship, and space travel as the SCF Guitar Ensemble plays standards and original compositions commissioned exclusively for this concert. The concert is under the direction of SCF guitar instructor, Dr. Jonathan Godfrey.

“Chamber Music Concert” — Thursday, March 30, 7:30 p.m., SCF Neel Performing Arts Center

The SCF Chamber Music Ensembles perform an evening of music composed for intimate settings. The concert will feature a variety of small instrumental from the woodwind, brass, and percussion sections from the SCF Symphonic Band. The concert is under the direction of SCF percussion instructor, Aaron Nix.
