Buchanan recognizes community leaders at Spirit of Manatee luncheon

Yesterday, Congressman Vern Buchanan recognized the efforts of 28 individuals and organizations at the 2025 Spirit of Manatee Luncheon in Palmetto, Florida. The event celebrated those who made significant contributions to the community following devastating hurricanes that hit Manatee County.

Buchanan expressed his appreciation for the honorees, stating, "The unwavering dedication demonstrated by the 2025 Spirit of Manatee honorees exemplifies the true essence of community. In the face of last year’s devastating hurricanes, these individuals and organizations stepped forward, embodying resilience and compassion. Their selfless contributions have been instrumental in our community’s rebuilding efforts, and it is with profound gratitude that I recognize and thank them for their steadfast commitment to the well-being of Manatee County."

The annual event was hosted by the Manatee Community Foundation and focused on recognizing philanthropy and leadership during a challenging period for the county. Among those honored were Kenneth T. Davis from BIED Society, Melinda Zarzycki-Harris from Bring on the Ministry, Chris Culhane from The Center of Anna Maria Island, Henry Detwiler Sr. from Detwiler’s Farm Market, Darcie Duncan from Duncan Real Estate, Justin Halas from Hand Up To Victory, Stephanie Rauda from Healthy Teens, Jennifer Hamey from Jennifer Hamey PA, Michael Garey from Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key, Tarnisha Cliatt from Manasota Black Chamber Collaborative, Sarah Brown from Manatee County Government, Mary Glass from Manatee Education Foundation.

Other notable honorees included Vernon DeSear from Manatee Memorial Foundation; Janene Amick representing Manatee Performing Arts Center; Maribeth Phillips with Meals on Wheels PLUS; Jackie Barron at Mosaic Florida Operations; Bruce Kurtz associated with Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium; Bethany Willats Carter along with Mike Carter and Rick Willats all linked to O’bricks Irish Pub and Martini Bar; Amanda Reedy together with Eleni Sokos both partaking in Oysters Rock Hospitality.

Additional recognition went to Louis Goff affiliated with The Rubonia Community Center; Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School Community represented by Peter Kraft; Keenan Wooten belonging to Sarasota Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.; Karen Bell connected to Star Fish Company; Josh Dunn engaged with United Way Suncoast as well as David Kraft involved in Vision Consulting Group.
