Edward Waters College issued the following announcement.

With a diverse background spanning more than twenty-five years of advancement, development, and fundraising experience in corporate non-profit and higher education settings, Mr. R. Scott Evans has accepted an appointment as the new Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Development, Marketing and Communications at Edward Waters College (EWC).

Mr. Evans will officially begin his tenure at EWC, effective January 1, 2021 and will provide the leadership and vision to aid in the continued forward progression of the College’s overall development and philanthropic function as it continues to emerge as a model inventive and dynamic fundraising operation.

“We are simply ecstatic to welcome such an experienced development professional and proven fundraising leader of the quality of Mr. Evans to the EWC community,” said EWC President & CEO, Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr.

As a highly experienced and demonstrably effective development professional, Mr. Evans has forged a distinguished reputation as a leading advancement and development professional having created and executed comprehensive fundraising campaigns, programs, and solutions generating in excess of $110 million throughout the course of his career. During his prior tenures as a Senior Vice President and Vice President of Institutional Advancement, he has exhibited an extraordinarily high acumen in the management and implementation of propitious strategic planning, marketing, alumni relations, major gifts, and governmental relations initiatives.     

“Mr. Evans is both a superlative advancement and development senior leader and a seasoned fundraising practitioner having led multi-million dollar fundraising campaigns in public higher education and particularly at a private liberal arts institution similar to Edward Waters,” President Faison said. “We look forward to his leadership in building upon our established positive momentum and outcomes as we continue to increase giving at the College amongst all of our constituent stakeholders, friends, and community partners,” President Faison said.             

In two separate tenures, Evans most recently served as Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement & Chief of Staff and Vice President for Philanthropy & External Relations at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio where he raised a cumulative total of $40 million to include having led and exceeded the College’s $30 million capital campaign goal. Prior to his second stint of senior fundraising leadership at Lake Erie College he served as the Vice President for University Advancement at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio where led the institution in achieving its best single year fundraising outcome in university history along with achieving a cumulative total of $15 million during his tenure. Mr. Evans also brings other substantial fundraising experience to his new post at EWC having priorly served as Director of Development at Northeast Ohio Medical University and Director of Resource Development at United Way of Greater Stark County in Canton, Ohio. He is a past consultant and board member of numerous non-profit and professional organizations. 

“I am enthusiastic and eager to join in partnership with the entire EWC community at this transformational time of Emerging Eminence under the progressive and truly visionary leadership of President Faison,” said Mr. Evans. “EWC’s historic mission and its current trajectory serves as a great source of inspiration for me personally and I look forward to engaging both the EWC and greater Jacksonville community towards heightened investment in the higher education crown jewel that is Edward Waters College,” Mr. Evans said.   

Mr. Evans earned a Bachelor’s degree Management from Malone University and a Master’s degree in Accounting from Kent State University. He is a graduate of the National Planned Giving Institute at The College of William & Mary. Evans completed other coursework in Aerospace Engineering at Arizona State University and is a FAA-licensed commercial drone pilot.
