City to Unveil Police Department Building’s New Name in Honor of Chief Derek Asdot

City of Green Cove Springs invites the public to witness the unveiling of the new name of the Police Department building in honor of former Chief Derek Asdot.

The unveiling ceremony will take place 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in front of the Green Cove Springs Police Department building. Former and current City Council members, as well as City and Police Administration will speak about work of former Chief Asdot before unveiling the new name in memory of his positive impact on the community.

Asdot was an Army veteran who joined the Green Cove Springs Police Department in 2002. Asdot ascended through the ranks and became Chief of Police in 2017. The Chief was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute. Asdot passed away from complications of COVID-19 in September 2021 and is the first Green Cove Springs Police law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty.
