Rep. Vern Buchanan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th District, used social media to share personal and professional updates over the past few days. Buchanan has been in Congress since 2007, following service in the Florida House of Representatives. He lives in Sarasota and is originally from Detroit, Michigan.
On March 27, Buchanan shared a personal note celebrating his wife's birthday: "Happy birthday to my beautiful wife, Sandy. Two kids and ten grandchildren later, I still feel so lucky that my college sweetheart said “yes.”
Later that day, Buchanan addressed a financial oversight concerning Medicaid payments: "Health insurers were double-paid by Medicaid to cover hundreds of thousands of patients nationwide, costing taxpayers $4.3 BILLION+ in extra payments. I look forward to @elonmusk and @SecKennedy investigating this insane waste of taxpayer dollars."
On March 28, Buchanan commented on a recent legislative decision about foreign influence in universities: "This week, 169 Democrats voted against simple reporting requirements surrounding foreign influence in our universities. With foreign counties, including the Chinese Communist Party, pumping billions of dollars into our universities, this is the definition of commonsense."
