Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) has a new leader. Jason Harris—who already knows the area’s roads and highways—has been named Transit Division Manager.
For the past three years, Harris has been the Director of Transportation for Sarasota County Schools—helping transport 18,000 students over 30,000 miles of routes each day. Prior to that posting, he was the Director of Transportation and Vehicle Maintenance for Manatee County Schools.
In addition to leadership roles in those school systems, Harris has also worked with the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and is the President-Elect for the Florida Association for Pupil Transportation (FAPT). With well-honed skills in leadership and operational development, communication, collaboration and team leadership, the new manager is eager to help drive MCAT forward.
Harris started today, meeting with bus operators and other colleagues as their day began. He was also encouraged by their spirit of teamwork and the ongoing recruitment for drivers—with pay rates starting at $17.80 per hour.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to join the Manatee County Government team, leveraging my over 15 years of transportation experience,” he said.
Harris holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Florida and a Master of Science in Public Administration from University of West Florida.
