They’re up, up, and away . . . 27 dogs earned their first-time flyer wings yesterday morning when they took off from the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport to rescues and shelters located in New York, Vermont and Maryland.
The jet-setting pups, who were loaded up at the Manatee County Animal Welfare (MCAW) Palmetto shelter before the sun came up, are the latest pets to be relocated for adoption to free up local shelter space for lost, disoriented or missing pets post Hurricane Ian.
With that transfer completed, MCAW staffers have been able to relocate 185 pets since the hurricane. Currently, there are 225 pets at MCAW shelters (98 cats and 127 dogs).
